about

This was a song written and record very hastily, a sort of tribute to Bert Jansch and the Clientele, two of my favorite artists of all time. Also a tribute to my very cool aunt, Valerie, although the song is not about her at all. The lyric "I'm forgetting what it's like to be closer to you" is a sort of melancholic feeling I get going to bed after my wife, after days of not seeing each other because of kids and working opposite schedules.

lyrics

Valerie, it's no secret all the good guys lose
It's the price we pay I guess for all the chains
That we refuse

I'm forgetting what it's like to be closer to you
I'm forgetting what it's like to be closer to you

Valerie oh we're so rich for being poor
When I look up to the sky I see the outline
Of heaven's door

I'm forgetting what it's like to be closer to you
I'm forgetting what it's like to be closer to you
